Long-distance and Short-distance Moving Tips

Growing up with a military dad, we moved all over the country. I went to 12 different schools before I went to college! It is easy to see how I learned a lot about moving throughout my life, and now that I am semi-retired, I decided to make a blog to share moving tips with anyone who needs them to fill my free time. I actually really miss moving around, because I always felt like after moving to every new area, I had the chance to become whoever I wanted to be. I also never had to worry about doing something embarrassing in school and being made fun of it for years! I hope you can learn from my moving experience stories and tips I plan to post here. Check back often!

Top 3 Mistakes To Avoid During A Local Move

Some people think that a local move will run more smoothly and is less involved than a long-distance move. Local movers hear this all the time. This statement is, at best, just wishful thinking and could not be further from the truth.

In most cases, the only difference lies in the distance to be covered during your move. Unfortunately, too many people underestimate what it will take to have a smooth local move and overlook a few things.

Here are common mistakes that local movers strongly advise against if you wish to have a smooth move.

Not Giving Enough Time

Professional local movers know that packing is easily one of the most time-consuming tasks during any move, local or otherwise. For a local move, most people are ok with just throwing everything haphazardly inside boxes, which, for various reasons, is definitely not the right way to go about it.

Even then, it will still take some time to completely pack up, especially if you have a lot of belongings. Not giving yourself enough time to pack is a sure way to stress yourself.

"Start planning early" remains the rule whether you are doing a local or long-distance move. The good news is that expert local movers will pack you up fast and do it the right way. During the initial assessment, the movers will assess how much time packing will take and can plan accordingly for the move.

Not Sorting Your Stuff

As already mentioned, you may be tempted to throw everything in boxes and move it all to the new location. Unfortunately, moving all your items without sorting them out is a huge mistake that will cost you in more ways than one.

If you have not decluttered in a while, then you'll only be transferring the clutter to the new location, and you may end up taking up way more space than is necessary. Again, the more stuff that needs moving, the more your local movers may have to charge you. If sorting your belongings seem like too much of a hassle, you can always enlist your local movers.

Not Checking the Local Movers' Insurance

What could possibly go wrong in the short distance you'll cover when as you move to the other side of the neighborhood or town? Anything and everything, which is why you need to be prepared. Don't assume anything, and make sure the local movers you choose are insured.

With the help of local movers and avoiding these common mistakes, you can certainly look forward to a hassle-free move.
